Dear BCS Families,

New York City schools have been mandated to remain closed until, at least, April 20, 2020.  Administration and teachers have been working diligently during our professional development days to ensure your child will continue to receive quality instruction until school reopens. Distance learning is new for all of us so we are asking for your patience and cooperation during this process.

In addition to the daily phone calls you will receive from your child’s teacher, Ms. Hunt or Mrs. Sanders will reach out to you weekly, via email, so that you can ask questions or provide us with feedback on this new online process.

During this time it is important to try to maintain normalcy for our BCS students so beginning Monday, March 23rd through April 8th at 9:00 a.m. please look forward to the following daily:

  • A morning message from a member of the administration team.
  • Instruction in ELA and math.
  • Twice a week instruction in science.
  • Dance, music, and virtual field trips on Friday’s.

A separate, grade specific, letter will be sent via email regarding how and where to login to access your child’s daily instruction.  This will be in your inbox by Saturday afternoon.  Students will have 24 hours to complete their assignments.  If your child is ill and is unable to participate in online instruction, please let their teacher know via email.

Please direct all curriculum questions to your child’s teacher.  Ms. Hunt and Mrs. Sanders will be monitoring all online instruction, however, your child’s teacher will be the best source of information for grade specific content.

If you experience technical issues, Ms. Jones, our technology teacher, will be available from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. to assist.  She can be contacted via email at [email protected].

Teachers will be available daily from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and again from 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.  Teachers will make daily phone calls to students from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. to ask and answer any questions about the content taught for the day. If your child will not be with you during the designated timeframe, you may request a different call time, or provide your child’s teacher with a phone number where they can be reached.  Please note, teachers will be unavailable from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.  They are also not mandated to be available after 4:00 p.m. However, if you need a concession, please let your child’s teacher know.

If you are in need of Wi-Fi access, Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription. To enroll call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.

Again, we ask for your patience and cooperation during this time.  We know this may be a lot to grasp all at once so we are here to ensure our BCS students and families are supported throughout this process. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, and/or concerns.

Thank you, in advance,

Joanne Hunt, Principal

Pamptata Sanders, Asst. Principal
