Applying to The Brooklyn Charter School is simple – and is open to any and every child from all New York City boroughs or any other location, free of charge.

First, attend an Open House or School Tour and see our school in action: Get a sense of our community, the environment of learning and ask any questions you may have. Following the visit, you may complete an application, which will be dated and placed in a file. You may also complete an application online or download, complete and mail in an application in English or Spanish.

However, our student-focused approach means that we cannot accept every child at the moment of application.  Each year, Kindergarten spots are filled via lottery; others are wait-listed. Here’s how it works:

• The lottery is usually held in April of each year in the school’s Auditorium, on the first floor at 5:00 p.m. on the selected day.

• Kindergarten applications are entered into the lottery to fill available seats. If you attend the lottery, you will find out immediately whether or not your child has been accepted. We telephone all families to notify them of acceptance; we also immediately mail an acceptance letter to the family.

• Applications for grades 1 through 5 are placed on a waiting list, according to their date of application. As vacancies arise, we contact each family to offer placement based on the date of the application.
