Tailored to meet the needs of individual students, The Brooklyn Charter School’s curriculum combines a model core academic curriculum that reflects existing Common Core Standards and New York State standards with a strong program in the Arts: visual, music and dance. Two highly-qualified professionals – one teacher with a masters degree and an assistant who is masters-qualified – teach each class.
Here, literacy is a primary focus – in both the English language and in the Arts. We view the Arts as another language in our universe. It’s part of literacy. We define literacy – and the act of being literate – as the ability to use one’s innate sensory, and cognitive abilities to access, understand, interpret, and communicate information and ideas about oneself, others and the world. Our goal: to make every student a literate one.
We achieve that goal via a research-based curriculum designed to effectively address the needs of all learners in a safe, supportive and nurturing environment. Each day is rich and diverse, filled with opportunity for hands-on learning.
