General Education Teacher (Grade 1 and Grade 4)

BCS is looking to hire highly qualified, passionate and energetic individuals for our 2022-23 instructional team.  A classroom teacher at BCS is generally responsible for the planning, organizing, implementing and delivery of a rigorous instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic, social & emotional potential in order to be productive citizens in today’s society.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach all Common Branch subjects (Humanities, Mathematics and Science);
  • Participate in the Teacher Growth and Evaluation Process which includes goal-setting, observations and an overall performance evaluation at the close of the school year;
  • Develop weekly lesson plans utilizing a schoolwide lesson plan template and submit them electronically;
  • Plan and provide explicit differentiated instruction for all learners in the classroom (high-functioning, strivers, etc.);
  • Deliver lessons in a fun, engaging, rigorous and urgent manner;
  • Manage the classroom in a positive manner. Develop clear, positive structures, expectations and routines in the classroom to create a safe learning environment for all students;
  • Is familiar with and understands the most updated version of Learning Standards adopted by New York State and how they align to BCS curriculum;
  • Adhere to the school’s selected curriculum in all subjects in order to maintain consistency within each classroom and across all grades;
  • Utilize existing formative/summative assessments on a consistent basis to monitor academic achievement and developmental benchmarks for students;
  • Meet the growth measures outlined for i-Ready and NYS Test Data in ELA, Math and Science;
  • Utilize test data collected from assessments to drive and inform instruction;
  • Provide weekly e-mail communication to families regarding information for the following school week beginning in September;
  • Communicate with families consistently and when necessary regarding positive accomplishments as well as areas of improvement in academics and/or behavior in person, via telephone calls or electronic mail.
  • Work with instructional leaders and coaches for planning purposes and growing instructional practice;
  • Participate in grade level meetings, weekly planning meetings, data meetings and professional development sessions as required and necessary;
  • Serve as a coach/mentor to Assistant Teacher if applicable;

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution preferred;
  • Meet professional teacher education & NYS certification requirements;
  • At least 1 year of relevant teaching experience preferred.
  • Salary is based on level of education, number of years teaching and certification (Salary Range: $63K-85K)

Math Teacher (Grade 5)

BCS is looking to hire highly qualified, passionate and energetic individuals for our 2022-23 instructional team.  A classroom teacher at BCS is generally responsible for the planning, organizing, implementing and delivery of a rigorous instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic, social & emotional potential in order to be productive citizens in today’s society.

  • Teach Mathematics to fifth grade scholars;

  • In collaboration with a General Education teacher, develop, plan, supplement and deliver appropriate instructional support and activities for students with IEPs and “at-risk” students in all Common Branch subject areas (Humanities, Math and Science) on a daily basis;
  • Develop weekly lesson plans utilizing a schoolwide lesson plan template and submit them electronically;
  • Employ specific instructional methods and assessment strategies for mandated students as outlined in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs);
  • Create and utilize clear and specific assessment tools and rubrics that are aligned to student IEP academic goals in order to plan instruction, remediation and to measure student progress toward achieving outcomes and academic goals;
  • Provide all testing accommodations to students with IEPs as required;
  • Attend all Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings for initial placements, annuals, tri-annuals as well as students who have been referred through the school’s RTI Team which you service;
  • Meet and collaborate with Response To Intervention (RTI) teams to monitor students with IEPs as well as identify current students who may be “at-risk” to ensure that students are receiving the appropriate services and supports they may need;
  • Complete thoughtful, detailed and evidence-based reports/academic goals for mandated students with IEPs for annual reviews in a timely manner;
  • Complete progress reports for each report quarter for all mandated students;
  • Meet the growth measures outlined for i-Ready and NYS Test Data in ELA, Math and Science;
  • Utilize test data collected from assessments to drive and inform instruction;
  • Maintain an assessment file for each student consisting of evaluations of student’s academic, and social/emotional development (Exit tickets, quizzes, formative/summative assessments, rubrics, progress reports, checklists, interim assessments, etc.) which can be accessed regularly;
  • Provide necessary evidence of classroom documents, artifacts, etc. in order to create action plans for identified students at RTI meetings;
  • Complete observation forms and checklists as requested by the Special Education Coordinator for students recommended by the RTI team in a timely manner;
  • Serve as the Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) provider as needed for respective grade(s) if scheduling allows.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution preferred;
