Applying to The Brooklyn Charter School is simple – but first, why Brooklyn Charter?

We are a premier charter school that has been serving the Brooklyn community for over 25 years. We are pioneers in the charter school world. Below are some of the features that separate us from other schools.
- BCS continues to significantly outperform District 14, NYC and NYS on all New York State ELA, Math and Science Exams!
- BCS understands the needs of families and is open and operates from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. daily.
- BCS offers free transportation in the AM and PM. We are one of the only charter schools to provide the option of yellow bus transportation for families outside of our neighborhood (Bedford-Stuyvesant), including, Flatbush, Crown Heights, Brownsville and East New York. BCS also offers van service. Check with the school for availability.
- We have small classroom sizes; with a teacher to student-to-ratio of 10:1.
- There are two teachers for each classroom which ensures that the needs of our students are met.
- We utilize a Humanities, Mathematics curriculum that is aligned with Next Generation Learning Standards and places students on a fast track for college and beyond.
- Our students attend quarterly field trips that are associated with the curriculum in order to make connections to self and connections to the world
- We offer Integrated Co-Teacher classes (ICT), Speech, Occupational Therapy, English as a Second Language, and counseling to our students.
- All of our students participate in dance, music, technology, physical education daily to ensure a well-rounded educational experience.
- BCS Clubhouse, also known as ‘The Hive,’ is where every student finds their spark and lets their creativity shine!
- All students participate in recess daily. Kindergarten students receive additional weekly recess to promote social interactions with peers.
- We are a uniform school, with dress-down days for special occasions and SPIRIT Days each month (Character Day, Pajama Day, Twin Day, Sports Fan Day, Western Day, etc.).
- Our children operate in an environment infused with positivity, accountability and lots of love. We incorporate positive reward systems, Daily Affirmations & Cornerstones, Harambe meetings, Success Assemblies, Parent Engagement events, school performance and much more.

- Set up an appointment to attend a tour to see us in action.
- Be ready to apply before the April 1st deadline when applications must be received.
- Note that our public lottery will be held on April 13TH, at a designated space in the school. The time will be determined on April 1stand will be posted to the school’s website.
- All Kindergarten applications are entered into the lottery to fill available seats. Priority is given to students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and students who speak another language (ENL). If you attend the lottery, you will find out immediately whether or not your child has been accepted. We e-mail all families to notify them of acceptance.
- Applications for grades 1 through 5 are initially placed on a waiting list, according to their date of school receipt. As vacancies arise, we contact each family to offer placement.
